Foxwoods vs Mohegan Sun — Connecticut's Tribal Casino Rivalry
Two tribal mega-casinos within 12 miles of each other. Foxwoods (Mashantucket Pequot) and Mohegan Sun have spent 30 years as direct competitors. Here's the 2026 state of play.
Foxwoods — the bigger floor
Mashantucket Pequot's flagship; opened 1992. Six interconnected casino floors, ~6,400 slots, ~250 tables. Hotel towers (Grand Pequot, Great Cedar, Two Trees). The Tanger Outlets next door, Top Golf Swing Suites, two theaters. Sheer scale wins.
Mohegan Sun — the better-designed floor
Mohegan Tribe's property; opened 1996. Two distinct casinos (Casino of the Earth and Casino of the Sky), connected by a soaring atrium with a planetarium ceiling. ~5,300 slots, ~270 tables. The Mohegan Sun Arena hosts the Connecticut Sun (WNBA) and concerts. The architecture is genuinely good — Tom Sansone and Rockwell Group did the work.
Tables and rules
Both have 3:2 blackjack at all major rule levels (find $25 tables on the main floor; $100+ in high-limit). Single-zero roulette exists in high-limit at both properties. Full craps. Major poker rooms. Mohegan's poker room has been stronger historically; Foxwoods's is bigger but quieter.

Which to pick
If you're driving from NYC for a weekend: Mohegan Sun for the design and food.
If you're going for sheer floor variety: Foxwoods.
If you have time, do both — they're 15 minutes apart by car. Day at Foxwoods, dinner and evening at Mohegan, sleep wherever you booked.
