The Northeast Casino Road Trip: AC → Foxwoods → Mohegan Sun in 5 Days

A 5-day road trip hitting Atlantic City, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and Mount Airy. The Northeast circuit that gives you 4 distinct casino experiences without flying.

In 60 seconds

5-day Northeast casino road trip: Day 1-2 Atlantic City (Borgata or Hard Rock). Day 3 drive to Foxwoods (4 hours). Day 4 Foxwoods. Day 5 Mohegan Sun day-trip then drive home. Optional add-on: Mount Airy in the Poconos as a Day 6 stop. Total drive: 600 miles. Total casinos: 4. Total cost (room+food+gas, excluding gambling): roughly $1,200-1,800 for two people.

The Northeast US has more casino density than any region except Las Vegas. From AC to the Connecticut casinos to the PA Poconos is a 5-day circuit that gives you four genuinely different casino experiences without ever boarding a plane.

01

Day 1-2: Atlantic City

Drive to AC (3-4 hours from NYC, 1.5 from Philly). Stay 2 nights at Borgata Water Club (Marina District) or Hard Rock (Boardwalk).

Day 1: Check in, walk the boardwalk, eat dinner at Bobby Flay Steak (Borgata) or Kuro (Hard Rock). Play a 4-hour evening session.

Day 2: Pool morning, lunch at Hard Rock or Ocean's Wahlburgers, drive to Hard Rock for an afternoon session, dinner, second evening session at Borgata.

Cost: Borgata weeknight $180/night × 2 = $360. Food $200. Total non-gambling: $560.

02

Day 3: Drive AC → Foxwoods (4 hours)

Drive north on Garden State Parkway → I-95 → I-395 to Connecticut. About 4 hours with one stop. Lunch in Westchester or New Haven on the way.

Arrive Foxwoods mid-afternoon. Check into Grand Pequot Tower. Walk the maze (it's confusing — see Foxwoods vs Mohegan for the layout). Evening session. Dinner at Forelli or Tanger Outlets food court.

Cost: $150 gas/road food. $250 Foxwoods Grand Pequot. Total day 3: $400.

03

Day 4: Foxwoods full day

Use the day to fully explore Foxwoods. Multiple pools (good in summer, less interesting in winter). Tanger Outlets attached. Three different casino floors (Grand Pequot, Foxwoods, Great Cedar).

Evening: bigger gambling session. Foxwoods has full table coverage; the Grand Pequot high-limit room is recently renovated.

Cost: $250 Foxwoods night 2. $150 food. Total: $400.

04

Day 5: Foxwoods → Mohegan Sun → home

Morning: drive 8 miles to Mohegan Sun. Day-trip there. Mohegan's open-atrium casino is dramatically different from Foxwoods' multi-building maze. Lunch at Bobby's Burger Palace.

Afternoon session at Mohegan. Mohegan Rewards is a separate program from Foxwoods — no carryover.

Late afternoon: drive home. From Mohegan Sun to NYC is 2 hours.

Cost: $80 gas + tolls. $80 lunch. $40 dinner on the road. Total: $200.

05

Optional Day 6: Mount Airy (Poconos)

If you want to extend, Mount Airy in the Poconos is 2 hours from Mohegan. Mountain casino vibe, smaller than the Connecticut casinos, but different enough to add variety. Stay 1 night at the on-property hotel.

06

Total trip economics

Without optional Mount Airy day:

  • Hotels: Borgata 2 + Foxwoods 2 = ~$860
  • Food: ~$550
  • Gas + tolls: ~$200
  • Non-gambling total: ~$1,610

With Mount Airy:

  • Add ~$150 for room and food
  • Total: ~$1,760

For two people, this is roughly the cost of one weekend in Vegas without gambling. With gambling allocations on top.

07

Why the Northeast circuit works

Four distinctly different casinos in 5 days:

  • AC boardwalk: nostalgic, beach, smaller market feel
  • AC Marina (Borgata): destination luxury
  • Foxwoods: largest casino in CT, multi-building, attached outlets
  • Mohegan Sun: open atrium, single building, big arena
  • Optional Mount Airy: mountain resort vibe
